Join us at The State on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 8pm with renowned Mexican singer and actress Thalia as she performs hits from her new album, Latina!
Born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico, Thalia began acting and singing at a young age. When she was nine years old, she sang with a children’s group (Din-Din) that toured around Mexico and released four albums. When the group broke up, she joined the band Timbiriche, which performed on telenovelas. This eventually led to her television acting debut, which inspired the rest of her successful telenovela acting career.
Thalia released her first solo album, Thalía, with four major radio hits (“Amarillo Azul,” “Pienso en Ti,” “Un Pacto Entre Los Dos,” and “Saliva”) in 1990. Her second album, Mundo de Cristal, followed in 1991 and earned a double gold status in Mexico. Love, her third studio album, came the next year and was met with huge success: six singles from the album became wildly popular, the album reached number 15 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums in 1993, and it reached platinum status in Mexico.
Thalia’s fame reached international levels with the release of her fourth album, En Éxtasis (1995), and its seven singles (“Piel Morena,” “Amándote,” “María la del Barrio,” “Querio Hacerte el Amor,” “Gracias a Dios,” “Me Faltas Tú,” and “Lágrimas”). This album boosted her to fame in the United States and the Philippines, which prompted her to rerecord and release a multi-lingual compilation album (Nandito Ako) with songs in Tagalog and English. She was met with an even larger audience with the release of Amor a la Mexicana (1997), which reached Spanish-speaking countries as well other countries like France, Greece, Turkey, and Portugal.
In 2003, Thalia released her first English album, Thalía, which enjoyed huge success in the United States. Her five studio albums since then (El Sexto Sentido, Lunada, Habítame Siempre, Amore Mío, and Latina) have kept her consistently on the charts in Mexico and the U.S. She has performed at the White House on multiple occasions, collaborated with other seasoned artists like Michael Bublé and Tony Bennett, and toured the United States and Latin America several times.
Thalia’s music has received numerous accolades: she has had dozens of Top 10 singles (16 of which went to No. 1) and has received a multitude of prestigious awards and nominations, including five Latin Billboard Awards (from 17 nominations), several Premios Juventud and Lo Nuestro Awards, and seven Latin Grammy® nominations.
Aside from her successful music career, Thalia has enjoyed success in many other forms: she is an accomplished telenovela actress with leading roles in María Mercedes, Marimar, Maria la del Barrio, and Rosalinda. She has designed clothing and accessories with brands such as Kmart, Macy’s, and Kenmark Optical, released her own magazine (Thalía), and promoted her own chocolate line with Hershey’s.
Her newest album, Latina (2016), is Thalia’s 13th studio album and her first in two years. It includes the single “Desde Esa Noche,” which landed at No. 4 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Chart upon its release in January. See Thalia perform her new music as well as her well-known hits at State Theatre New Jersey on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 8pm!
