We take on the All Hands on Deck! Show Tap Audition
Posted on 11/01/2018
This month at State Theatre New Jersey we have an amazing tribute to the troops with the All Hands On Deck! Show. This all-American Roadshow and Radio Broadcast reproduction includes some of the greatest American songs ever written, skits, dances, classic commercials, and four amazing New York voices that take you on an exciting trip back to the 1940's. Creator, performer, and Broadway veteran Jody Mardaras shows us the tap audition for the show (first video) and our Marketing Coordinator Hanna decided to attempt to recreate the combination (second video)!
Here are Hanna's thoughts on the video:
So we found this video in August and I was like oh this show isn't until mid-November, I could totally learn this! And then our busy season started and everything kind of got away from me so I learned this in an hour and a half of rehearsal...
Ok, the wig. So for the past few years I have been Suzie the Elf (no wig) and Suzie the Princess (long black wig). Here's the problem—I now get recognized by kids and adults as Suzie the Elf so to be another "character" I needed a new wig and that's the one I had.
Pullbacks! I love to tap and I get to do it when I dance in community theater shows. Here's the truth: I never "officially" learned how to do a pullback. This came from me watching this video and kind of figuring it out on my own.
So, if you love tap dancing and singing (and music of the big band swing era of the 1940s), make sure you come see the All Hands on Deck! Show on Sunday, November 11 at 3pm for a fantastic afternoon at the theater! (And people tap dancing better then me.)
