ANDRÁS KELLER, Chief Conductor

LISZT, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2
BRAHMS, Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor, Op. 15
DVOŘÁK, Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95, B. 178 "From the New World"

Enjoy a radiant concert of masterpieces performed by the Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra, one of Hungary’s oldest and most vibrant ensembles. Young Hungarian piano superstar Zoltán Fejérvári performs Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor and the evening also features works by central European masters, including Dvořák’s popular and beloved New World Symphony.

A prominent Hungarian violinist in his own right, András Keller has revitalized the century-old orchestra since becoming its Artistic Director and Chief Conductor in 2007. Today, Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra is known for its expansive classical repertoire and collaborations with highly sought-after soloists like Fejérvári, who Gramophone calls “a deeply communicative artist…[with] magisterial command of his instrument…[and] impeccable musicality.”

About the Conductor
Conductor and violinist András Keller has enjoyed a varied career as a soloist, concertmaster, and chamber musician at the highest international level. He is the music director of Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra, the founder of the Keller Quartet, and the Béla Bartók International Chair at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

His early studies at the Ferenc Liszt Academy in Budapest led to many collaborations with György Kurtág, whose works he has been premiering and performing worldwide since 1978. He has also enjoyed working intensively with Ferenc Rados and, until his death, Sándor Végh.

Keller is the regular coach at Aix-en-Provence Festival, returning guest of the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and IMS Prussia Cove. As both chamber musician and soloist, he has appeared in every European country, playing in many prestigious venues and festivals, including Edinburgh, Lucerne, Aldeburgh, Schleswig Holstein, and the BBC Proms. Outside Europe, Keller has been invited to both Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center, New York, the Washington Library of Congress, and many cities in Japan, China, and Korea.

About the Soloist
Winner of the 2017 Concours Musical International de Montréal and recipient of the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2016, pianist Zoltán Fejérvári has appeared in recitals throughout the Americas and Europe, at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Canada’s Place des Arts, Gasteig in Munich, Lingotto in Turin, Palau de Música in Valencia, Biblioteca Nacional de Buenos Aires, and Liszt Academy in Budapest. He has performed as a soloist with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Hungarian National Orchestra, Verbier Chamber Orchestra, and Concerto Budapest, and he has collaborated with such conductors as Iván Fischer, Gábor Tákács-Nagy, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, and Zoltán Kocsis. Fejérvári’s solo recording debut, Janáček, released in January 2019, earned rave reviews.
