Blind, Braille, and Audio Description Icons

Braille signage is available throughout STNJ, including elevator, restrooms, lounge, seating boxes, and emergency stairwell exits.

Limited Mobility

State Theatere New Jersey features an ADA-approved automatic door opener at its front entrance. Patrons with limited mobility may be dropped off at the front entrance which allows access to all public levels within the theater. An elevator, located on the left side of the main lobby, provides wheelchair and limited mobility access to all lobbies, the orchestra and balcony levels of the main auditorium, the Studio space, restrooms, and VIP Donor Lounge. All public restrooms are accessible and there are also private restrooms for families and individuals with limited mobility located off the main lobby as well as within the balcony lobby restrooms.

The main auditorium offers designated wheelchair locations and wheelchair companion seats in the front, middle, and rear orchestra as well as the front balcony for wheelchair users who want to remain in their wheelchair. Transfer seats are also available on the aisle in the front, middle, and rear orchestra for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility who wish to transfer to a theater seat. Adjacent companion seats are also available for purchase. Patrons with limited mobility can access Orchestra level seating. The balcony, with the exception of designated wheelchair and some companion seats, require patrons to climb steps. Staff can assist you from the front door of the theater to your seats.

It is prohibited for anyone, other than those requiring wheelchair spaces or seats for their companions to use wheelchair accessible seating locations unless the area has been released for general seating. Those purchasing wheelchair accessible seating may purchase one (1) wheelchair accessible seat and up to three (3) companion seats; any additional seats must be purchased in the regular seating areas. This policy ensures that we are able to accommodate all available and accessible wheelchair seats in our theater.

Wheelchair and companion seating areas are available on a first come first served basis and State Theatre cannot guarantee availability of these sections once these areas have been filled or re-designated as non-ADA seating based on ADA guidelines.

Hearing Impaired Icon

Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Our newly renovated theater auditorium features a large-area Dual FM and Wi-Fi assistive listening system. This state-of-the-art digital audio system allows you the choice of listening with a headset, provided at our Coat Check location for free before your show. We’ll ask for a driver’s license or credit card as a deposit for headset usage.

Sign Language Interpretation

ASL Interpretation is available by request for certain performances with at least two weeks advance notice. Call our Guest Services office during normal operating hours at 732-246-7469, or email

Our newly renovated restrooms are all wheelchair accessible and located on all levels. Companion/family friendly private restrooms are also available off our main lobby and balcony level lobby.
