State Theatre New Jersey is a proud presenter of the New Brunswick Heart Festival!

Join us for the third annual New Brunswick Heart Festival, The FREE outdoor family-friendly festival, which celebrates the vibrant arts and history of New Brunswick and Middlesex County, will feature live music and dance performances, dance classes for kids and adults, an Arts Market, craft vendors, free balloon animals and face painting, arts & crafts activities, games, free Henna and cariactures, and fun giveaways. This festival will take place in downtown New Brunswick in front of the theaters at Monument Square at 2 Livingston Ave.

At this year’s festival, there will be a few special sections including a Health & Wellness tent hosted by Garden of Healing with a family drum circle, chair & foot massage, and a make your own aromatherapy scrub; readings of famous love letters by actors from Thinkery & Verse; and a History Corner featuring historical interpreters, a printer and a surgeon, who will share what it was like for Middlesex County and New Jersey during the 1700s and the American Revolution.

Live performances include Hip-Hop, Reggae, Pop performer for the kids, Fyütch (recently seen at Kidzapalooza); local Latin band Sonido Latino; the brilliant, tap dancer Omar Edwards; Salsa dance lessons with Elvis Ruiz; a dance performance by Grupo de Danza Folklórica La Sagrada Familia; the New Brunswick Brass Band; a dance performance by InSpira Performing Arts & Cultural Center; and roaming musicians, Hearts of Oak!  The festival is hosted by New Jersey Hall of Famer Bert Baron and Founder of TSO Productions, Sharon Gordon!

Other events and activities at the New Brunswick HEART Festival include theater tours of the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center (NBPAC) and State Theatre New Jersey, button-making with the New Brunswick Free Public Library, Japanese black ink drawing with the Highland Park Arts Commission, dance classes for kids and teenagers hosted by Princeton Ballet School, and pipe cleaner architecture with Zimmerli Art Museum.

New this year, expanding the footprint of the festival, is the addition of a Block Party on Morris Street, held in front of Above Art Studios (55 Morris St). The Block Party will include live music, food, vendors, a spades tournament, live painting, and a community chalk art mural.

On Friday, August 12, the HEART Festival kicks off with a Live Art Battle at Above Art Studios (55B Morris St) from 7pm-9pm. Featuring seven contestants, three timed rounds, and one prize, the Art Battle will take place at the Studio and will be live-streamed on Above Art Studio’s Instagram account @AboveArtStudios.
